Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important representative stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
