Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from spring of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to create a third set.

Moutet saved four initial break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
